Why C-6 and how did I get there is a question I often get asked…
It is actually an easy answer and a logical extension of everything I have spent my life doing, and that is MAKING A DIFFERENCE! For over 20 years I practiced Geriatric medicine. I loved Geriatric medicine and I loved my patients, always fighting for their best interests. Like horses, they often could not tell me what was wrong or what they were thinking so I had to learn how to listen for what could be heard and what couldn’t be heard. To look for what could be seen and what couldn’t be seen. And then to sort through all these little forms of communication to figure out and formulate a specific plan that could help. Making a difference.
Training horses was actually quite similar. Listen and look, smell and feel, figure it out. They tell you so much and so often they are misread or misunderstood. When that happens things go wrong. I frequently got “those” horses and the moment they saw I was listening to them things started to change. I have spent my life becoming more knowledgeable about feed, physical care, feet, alternative therapies, understanding their behavior and ways of training so that I can make a difference.
As I have traveled along this journey, the other important thing was I wanted to have a place where people and horses could come, “Gather, heal and learn”. So the journey began. It started with our clinic series, “The science of Confidence and Connection” for horsewomen. This series created a space so safe that women could get to that thing that was ruling their relationship with their horse, or with their trainer or in other areas of their lives. It was at this first clinic that Sinead witnessed this space. She ultimately joined us for the next clinic. After that clinic it became apparent that the space we were creating was so much more powerful and special then we ever could have imagined and the need was even greater than we had realized. Together “We” filled in the blanks and with this, C-6 was born. We had a place to gather and the space to heal and the team to help learn. Making a difference.
Whether I look at my medical career or working with horses, I have spent a great deal of my life struggling with “not feeling good enough”, “worthy enough”, “smart enough”, “brave enough”, etc. It’s a constant battle or balance. This is part of what I bring to C-6. Despite all the reasons I should fail, I am making it. I want to help others “make it”.
Making a difference.
All of us bring a different gift to the table of C-6, and so do you. We are not alone in Making a difference.
and the support for our success was growing daily.
